Microsoft Outage IT Disruption Grounds Major US Airlines: Delta, United, American Affected

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced this morning that all flights from several major US airlines, including Delta, United, and American Airlines, have been grounded due to a communication issue.

Travel has been significantly impacted, with major US airlines like Delta, United, and America experiencing grounded flights. International carriers, including Virgin Australia and Qantas, have also reported disruptions.

The outage extends beyond travel, affecting critical infrastructure. Banks and telecommunication companies in Australia and New Zealand are facing issues. Additionally, Israeli authorities report a computer malfunction impacting hospitals and health services.

This news follows a significant Microsoft outage that impacted airlines on Thursday aswell. Frontier Airlines was grounded for several hours after its systems were affected by the outage. The airline offered refunds to inconvenienced passengers. Other carriers, including Allegiant and SunCountry, reported difficulties with online booking, check-in, and trip management functions. The FAA also announced the grounding of all Allegiant flights on Friday morning.

According to Microsoft's Azure cloud software status report, service went down for some customers in the central United States around 6:00 PM ET on Thursday. The report indicated issues with service management operations and service connectivity or availability. Microsoft has identified the cause of the outage and is working on a solution.
