United Airlines Restores Daytime Trans-Atlantic Travel Option
United Airlines is set to reintroduce its daytime trans-Atlantic flight between Washington Dulles and London Heathrow in 2025, ending a two-year hiatus. This move comes as other major carriers like Delta and American Airlines reduce similar services, making daytime options between North America and Europe increasingly rare.
The resumed service will begin on October 25, 2025, utilizing a Boeing 757-200 aircraft. The flight is scheduled to depart Washington at 8:30 a.m. local time and arrive in London at 8:50 p.m. United initially suspended this third daily flight in 2022, which had provided travelers with a convenient morning departure from Washington, landing in London in the evening.
The Washington-London route isn't United's only daytime service to Europe. The airline also operates a morning flight from its Newark, New Jersey, hub to London, highlighting its commitment to offering diverse options for trans-Atlantic travelers.
Daytime flights have become less common as airlines prioritize overnight services to align with passengers' preferences for maximizing time in Europe. Delta, for instance, ended its New York-JFK to Paris daytime flight earlier this year. Similarly, American Airlines is discontinuing its morning departure from Chicago O'Hare to London, leaving only its 9:30 a.m. flight from New York-JFK to Heathrow.
United's decision to restore this service bucks the industry trend, catering to travelers seeking more flexible flight schedules. Aiming to enhance convenience and customer choice, the airline's latest move reflects a strategic focus on maintaining its presence in the trans-Atlantic market.
