TAP Air Portugal Expands Horizons with Three New Routes in 2025
TAP Air Portugal will launch three new routes connecting the U.S. and Portugal in the summer of 2025 to enhance transatlantic travel. These additions strengthen TAP’s commitment to expanding its network and meeting the rising demand for international travel.
Starting May 14, TAP will introduce a Boston to Porto route operating four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This service, covering 3,145 miles, will use the Airbus A321LR, a single-aisle aircraft designed for long-range journeys.
On May 16, TAP will debut flights from Los Angeles to Lisbon, initially operating three times weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. By May 25, this service will expand to four weekly flights with the addition of Saturdays. TAP will deploy the wide-body Airbus A330-900neo for this route, offering enhanced comfort and efficiency.
The third route, San Francisco to Terceira in the Azores, will begin on June 3. Operating once weekly on Tuesdays, this route spans 4,918 miles, making it the longest flight to Terceira’s airport. TAP will also use the Airbus A330-900neo for this service, which complements existing connections to the Azores offered by Azores Airlines.
Carlos Antunes, TAP’s director for the Americas, highlighted the importance of these routes. He noted, “Los Angeles becomes TAP’s eighth U.S. gateway, further expanding our Portugal Stopover program.” This program allows travelers to explore Portugal for up to 10 days without additional airfare before continuing to other European destinations.
The Los Angeles to Lisbon route fills a critical gap in international connectivity, providing Southern California travelers with their first direct link to Portugal. Meanwhile, the San Francisco-Terceira route opens new opportunities for West Coast travelers to explore the Azores.
TAP’s transatlantic expansion aligns with broader industry trends as airlines increase their European offerings. By summer 2025, TAP will operate over 100 weekly flights from 11 North American gateways to Portugal. The airline has reported a 34% growth in transatlantic routes between July 2019 and July 2024, deploying 79,000 one-way seats.
These new routes reflect TAP’s strategy to provide travelers with more connectivity and convenience while promoting Portugal as a premier destination.
