Delta's Flight Attendant Application Site Crashes Due to High Demand

Delta Airlines recently announced that it was reopening flight attendant applications for the first time in a year. This news generated a massive response, with the airline receiving three times the usual number of applications on the first day, according to Delta spokesman Anthony Black.

However, the high volume of applicants caused the airline's website to crash. Applicants were notified that the site was overloaded and that they could not submit their applications at that moment.

Despite these issues, Delta's IT team worked quickly to resolve the problem, and interest remained high. By the end of the first week, Delta had received 60,000 applications, a significant jump from the 28,000 applications received in the same period last year.

"We had very strong numbers relative to the number of open positions," Black noted. "It gives us the opportunity to really pick and choose, finding the people who are the best fit for the job and the culture of the company."

The surge in applications can be due to several factors. Delta is known for having satisfied flight attendants, offering competitive wages, and being the only major U.S. airline that pays attendants for both boarding and flight time. An American Airlines flight attendant even went viral, urging her followers to apply to Delta if considering a flight attendant career.

The dramatic increase in applications for 2024 compared to 2023 might be influenced by various factors. Although the overall unemployment rate is slightly higher, the allure of travel and the job's perks may appeal to younger generations facing fewer remote work opportunities.

Being a flight attendant is challenging, and the high number of applications allows Delta to select the best candidates. Managing such a large applicant pool is a unique challenge but also an opportunity for Delta to maintain its reputation as a sought-after employer.
